In the Church, But Not Of It...

"Often we hear the remark that we have to live in the world without being of the world. But it may be more difficult to be in the Church without being of the Church. Being of the Church means being so preoccupied by, involved in, and consumed by the so many ecclesial affairs and clerical "ins and outs" of things, as well as the selecting, directing, cultivating, and pruning of people and groups that we are no longer focused totally on Jesus and what he's doing. The Church then blinds us from what we came to see and deafens us to what we came to hear. Still, it is in the Church that Christ dwells, moves, and invites us to his table, speaking to us words of eternal love. Being in the Church without being of it is a great spiritual challenge. How can you possibly be the fully empowered, completely essential member of Christ's Perfect Body without losing your focus, joy, and peace in all the busy, mundane, and urgent doings?"

Theology Of Stuff

The Theology Of Stuff from The Work Of The People on Vimeo.

I came across an outtake from a film I created for a company I started called Highway Video. It's extended footage of the Skit Guy's Tommy Woodard playing Dick...the "money pastor guy." Old, but still pretty funny.

Prayer Of Creative Blessing

God, on this alter we lay down what we know and understand.
We lay down our hopes, dreams and aspirations as a body of believers.
We lay down how we understand and encounter you,
We lay down how we understand and encounter each other.

We pray now, together, that we will not settle for what we know.
We wait expectantly for what we cannot imagine.

God we invite your creative blessing.
Release us into our created image as creators.
Release us to understand and encounter you in rich an deep ways.
Release us to understand and encounter each other in new and creative ways.

Creator God, do not let us, your people, settle for what we know.
Give us a thirst for what we cannot imagine.
